curve ball

just when i’m starting to think that i’m getting settled into living in Ecuador, visa complications prevent my quick return. well let me step back for a moment and explain the last couple months. in the end of august i made a surprise trip back to propose to my girlfriend. i had planned to stay in the states for several weeks to take care of my part of the wedding planning. however, as i began to prepare for my departure back to Ecuador i found out that i couldn’t return on my current visa, nor could i get an extension. since then, i’ve been working with Marco and my connections in Ecuador to find an alternative visa. while there is progress, it isn’t as quick as i had hoped. initially i was thinking i’d still be able to return for 6-8 weeks. however since i still haven’t gotten my visa, that won’t be an option either.

i had really hoped to be able to return, and aside from the obvious of being able to work on IMAGINE ministry stuff and continuing in spanish classes; i had also planned to find an apartment for Whit and I to move into after the wedding. additionally we have a number of things that we had wanted to take down to Quito in our luggage, however since neither of us will be able to go down before the wedding, the amount of things that we will be able to carry will now be greatly reduced. however, there are definitely some benefits that come out of this as well. one, we won’t be spending the money for two extra flights this fall and even more importantly, we will be able to spend the remainder of the time before the wedding, planning and preparing for this special time together.

the last month has already been really busy, and i know (especially since i did everything i could to return to Ecuador) that being here till the wedding is best. i have actually wondered many times how i/we would have done everything necessary to plan for the wedding and our lives together if i had been in Quito most of the time as planned. i love to see the Lord’s hand in things!

i would like to ask for your prayers during this time, that my time here would be well spent helping my bride to be with all the preparations, meanwhile working on things in Ecuador and preparing for our life there.

also, if you are interested in supporting Whitney and i as we start our life in missions together in Ecuador, please navigate to the donations link listed on my blog.
